Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if this treatment can help me?
If you experience functional ankle weakness so as to prevent heel walking and/or toe walking, foot slap or foot drop, balance issues, or difficulty walking due to CMT, you may be a great candidate for our program. Check out our Ideal Applicant Criteria to see if this approach is right for you.
Has this worked for others like me?
Yes! Many patients have experienced life-changing improvements in mobility, balance, and confidence. See for yourself—watch success stories here.
What drives your passion for helping those with CMT?
Seeing patients smile as they regain balance, powerful propulsion, and confidence fuels my passion. Every success story pushes me to reach and help more people.
How has your approach to orthotics evolved over the years?
I started by addressing separate issues for CMT patients fixing one thing at a time, but I realized that true functional mobility goes beyond that. Now, I focus on restoring all the basic elements of a natural, efficient gait by using the right AFO technology and gait training for patients to experience what its like to walk normally again.
What are the biggest challenges CMT patients face with traditional treatments?
Most bracing solutions for CMT fall short—many patients avoid wearing AFOs because they’re uncomfortable or ineffective. Without the right design and training, bracing fails to restore static balance, propulsive power, and confidence.
What are the common misconceptions about CMT?
Many people believe that once they lose balance and mobility, it’s gone for good and they just have to deal with it. . That’s not true. CMT patients can walk with more speed, power, and confidence— often far beyond what they thought was possible.
What makes your workshops different?
We don’t just hand out AFOs—AFOs are highly customized and you get to experience just how much they can change your life. Each participant is pre-screened to ensure the program is a good fit. In just 3 days, you’ll gain the tools, training, and a customized AFO prescription for long-term success.
What’s the most common feedback from patients who complete the program?
“Life-changing. So glad I came.”
How does CMT affect nerves and muscles at a cellular level?
CMT results in progressive demyelination and/or axonopathy of both our motor and sensory large fiber peripheral nerve cells. As impulses become more reduced distal muscle fibers and sensory muscle spindle fibers lose their ability to function resulting in weakness and atrophy of distal leg muscles and loss of tactile sensation and proprioception.
Why are customized AFOs so much more effective than non-customized ones?
Prefabricated AFOs are designed to fit normal anatomy. One-size-fits-all AFOs won’t cut it for CMT patients who present with varying degrees of muscle atrophy and deformity. Without customization, boney prominences became painful and result in skin damage. The CMT foot and ankle requires customization to prevent unwanted migration in the AFO and secure the foot in an optimal position. . A customized AFO is designed to match your foot structure and movement needs, preventing pain, pressure sores, and inefficiency. Proper customization ensures maximum support, comfort, and function.
How do you measure success in your treatment programs?
We track progress using balance testing, walking speed assessments, and before-and-after videos, showing real, measurable improvements.
What is your ultimate goal for the future of CMT treatment?
To share my knowledge with as many patients and practitioners as possible—ensuring that more people get access to effective orthotic management of CMT and helping the next generation take these principals even further.
