Meet Ken Cornell, CO
Ken Cornell, CO, is a nationally renowned Orthotist who pioneered the most effective orthotic treatment for patients diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) Disease to date.
CMT Mobility Rescue is an organization founded by Ken Cornell, CO., a leading orthotist who’s spent his career serving the CMT community.
We provide transformative orthotic treatment for CMT (Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease) patients through our 3 day workshop.
Our methodology uniquely blends biomechanical innovations in dynamic carbon AFO bracing technology with practical gait training techniques we’ve honed through decades of hands-on patient experiences.
Independent movement has rejuvenative effects both physically and psychologically for people suffering from CMT. We strive to restore confidence in our patients’ mobility, bringing a restored sense of joy and freedom to life.
We host workshops at CMTA events and medical centers of excellence around the country. If you’d like to attend or aid the CMT Mobility Rescue event near you, get in touch with us to learn more about how.
We work toward a cure – in the meantime, let’s take back all the function we can now!
Ken Cornell’s CMT Mobility Rescue aspires to lead global efforts in effective orthotic management CMT and to be a primary force in patient-centric orthotic solutions.
Ken Cornell, CO, is a nationally renowned Orthotist who pioneered the most effective orthotic treatment for patients diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) Disease to date.
Ken Cornell’s work with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease started in the early 1990s when he began to explore medical research before Google was around to help.
Ken would go to the medical library, make friends with the librarian, and ask her to print out all the articles about CMT she could find. With a deeper understanding of the disease process, he then began applying what he learned to his CMT patients. The results began speaking for themselves. However, he believed that treatment with better designed AFOs wasn’t enough. Patients needed to know how to use them.
Focusing on common CMT gait compensations and normal biomechanics of the human gait, Ken pioneered a treatment protocol that used advanced dynamic carbon AFO technology and targeted restoration of the basic elements of normal gait. The introduction of dynamic carbon ground reaction AFOs was a breakthrough in the industry and harmonized well with Ken’s developing CMT treatment protocol.
With positive results piling up, Ken co-authored a clinical balance study at the CMTA Center of Excellence at MGH Boston. The evidence showed that through just a simple, quick trial and basic training, CMT patients improved balance and walking speed was immediate. We can help people regain their balance and mobility.
While there has been a lot of progress in finding a cure for several CMT subtypes, we are not there yet. But, we can manage these motor and sensory deficits today. Most patients despite even advanced foot and ankle weakness can experience restoration of the basic elements of normal ambulation and balance when they implement our treatment protocol. Many experience an emotional Wow! Some are amazed they are able to run again.
Ken’s dedication has led to a treatment protocol that has restored hope and independence to countless CMT patients, helping them walk with power and confidence again.
Now, he’s sharing this success far and wide through The CMT Mobility Rescue workshop.
